Claim Free Places

Did you know EVERY 3 year old child is entitled to FREE childcare at Stepping Stones?

Please find below frequently asked questions about Government Funding for Childcare.

When can my child start claiming their government funded childcare?

If your child is 3 before:                             When they can start their three year funding

31st of March                                             April Term

31st of August                                           September Term

31st of December                                       January Term

i.e. your child is eligible for their free childcare the term after their 3rd birthday.

How many hours can my child have?

They can have a maximum of 15 hours per week for 38 weeks of the year (term-time only). That is 570 hours for the whole year. Because we are open for 50 weeks of the year, you can choose to spread your funding to use all year round, including in the holidays. This means you will be entitled to 11.5 hours per week.

How do I claim my places?

Please come into our nursery and fill out a ‘free entitlement form’. With the form you must also provide one of the following peices of identfication: child’s birth certificate, child’s passport, or a NHS red book. After this, we will claim the places for you. We would be happy to help you fill this in.

After this is all filled in, we will require your signature at the start of each new term to continue claiming for your child.

Could my child attend for more than 15 hours per week?

Yes. Your child can attend any hours to suit your needs, from 7:45am-5:45 pm, Monday-Friday. For additional hours, above the free 15 hours, we charge £4.20 per hour (as of April 9th 2018).

Can  my 2 year old child claim funding?

The government is now funding for free nursery education for two year olds, but some conditions apply.  To see if you child is entitled please visit:

https://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/education/early_years_childcare/early_learning_free_places/free_places_two/default.asp

Do you offer the new 30 hours funding?

Yes, as of September 2017 we now offer the 30 hours funding for eligible 3 year olds. To find out if you are eligible, please visit:

https://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/education/early_years_childcare/early_learning_free_places/increase-free-childcare-30hours/default.asp

If you are eligible, then you must provide us with your code so that we can verify this and confirm your place. This code must be reconfirmed every 3 months and this is the responsibility of the parent/carer. This is not something that we at nursery can do for you, although we will be happy to offer any assistance. Just like the 15 hours funding, the 30 hours funding can be spread across the year to include childcare during the holidays. Please ask for more details.

Can I split my funding across settings?

Yes - both the 15 and the 30 hours funding can be split between nursery settings. However, we must be informed of this and of how many hours you will be using at each setting. This must be filled in on the funding form before this is claimed.
